Something that I learned in my media class a little while back was how there are different reasons for why we watch TV and other forms of media. Besides the obvious reason of entertainment, we also watch media for its educational value. At first, this seemed a little strange to me (this is in part due to my still childish mind) and I think that no one would want to watch something on television to learn. Isn’t TV solely used to empty your mind and turn your brain to mush? Sure they have educational shows but no one really likes to watch those right?
Well, then I remembered junior high and how my favorite thing was to walk into my science class and discover a box TV on an old school rolling utility cart. Everyone knew we were in for a treat of watching Bill Nye the Science Guy! Those were good days.  Even in my college Humanities class today we were watching clips from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It might not have been completely educational but there was some value to watching the clips we did in relation to early Christianity and the story of King Arthur. I just think is fun that we can learn so much from movies and other forms of media that even educational systems feel them worthy to use in a classroom setting.
